We measured, aligned, and drilled a set of holes into the edge of the wall to let us put in the steel hinges. We built the gate itself by welding together a steel frame of the appropriate size and drilling an array of cedar planks into place over it. Last but not least, we attached a heavy-duty latch to the inside frame, long enough to catch on the wall when extended.
